Crystals at City Center is Open for Business
Sure it’s a recession, but that won’t stop Las Vegas from persevering. MGM Mirage’s 8.5 billion dollar development known as City Center has begun to open, beginning first with Vdara, a 57-story condominium hotel, followed by every shoppers’ paradise, Crystals.
Crystals is a 500,000 square foot retail and entertainment district featuring luxury retailers such as Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli and Tom Ford. According to reports, Crystals is 70% leased with 40% of its tenants available for the opening on December 3. Even with a soft opening, Crystals proved to be impressive, bold, spectacular and offering a shopping experience unlike any other in the world. With gorgeous, unique artwork and architecture, City Center is also the Las Vegas leader in environmental sustainability, boasting six LEED gold rating certifications.
But social responsibility aside, the real reason to visit Crystals is the eye candy. And, if it fits your budget, the luxury shopping is without a doubt to-die-for.

Betsey Johnson, My Handbag and Why You Should Expect to See a Little LOVE in Her Fall Collection
Fashion favorite, Betsey Johnson, visited Las Vegas last Saturday, October 24. Her Sin City tour began at the Betsey Johnson retail location at Fashion Show and ended at the second Betsey Johnson retail store at Miracle Mile at planet hollywood.
Fun, lively, fabulous and decked out, the designer posed for cameras, met with fans face-to-face, and even signed my new gray leather Betsey Johnson Little Bow Pleat handbag. She told me that gray is her latest favorite color. I was elated to hear that as I am going through a gray obsession this season.
Locally-owned bakery, Retro Bakery, which is very popular among locals for their
delicious cupcakes, provided a
gorgeous pink, three-tiered cake for the event at Miracle Mile.
In addition to her store appearances, Betsey Johnson also visited the backstage of the Cirque de Soleil show “LOVE,” a Beatles-inspired spectacle of nostalgia and entertainment. Ms. Johnson was reportedly taking notes of the costumes, which is quite a compliment to the talented costume designers of “LOVE.” I predict that Betsey Johnson fans should keep an eye out for “LOVE” inspired pieces in her Fall 2010 collection…, or, maybe her Spring 2011. We’ll see.
To get your funky, femme Betsey Johnson fix, visit her retail locations at Miracle Mile at planet hollywood (ask for Nina) or at Fashion Show mall.

Best in Shoes: Nine West
Nine West is a definite leading brand of affordable, fashionable shoes. Las Vegas shoppers love shopping for Nine West and the brand is a popular favorite and considered one of the best among bridge labels. Nine West shoes are well-made, comfortable and trendy. Service has proven to be dependable and accessible. But now after New York Fashion Week, Nine West has also become know for supporting up and coming designers.
Working recently with rising designers Project Runway’s Jillian Lewis, Bensoni, Timo Weiland and Untitled 11:11, Nine West’s Creative Director, Fred Allard has this to say about the support Nine West provided, “We were very excited to collaborate with such talented designers for the Spring 2010 fashion shows. We believe in supporting the efforts of new talent in the industry and will continue to work with young designers. The trends I loved on the New York runway ranged from eye-catching Americana to neutral layered palettes. For footwear, there was an emphasis in flats and sandals as well as the continued menswear/utility trend with updated lace-ups.” You can stay up-to-date with Nine West and Fred Allard via Mr. Allard’s official Twitter account at http://twitter.com/NineWest_Fred.

Best in Shoes: Aldo
This post is just the first in a series of posts dedicated to the best shoe shopping in Las Vegas. Las Vegas shoppers love their shoes, and there’s no shortage of shoe shops in Sin City. For this first post, we’re going to focus on Aldo because they’re fashionable, affordable and just happen to be a Go Shop Vegas Favorite.
The first thing shoppers should know about Aldo is that it is a private label. So you’ll only find Aldo shoes at Aldo. You’re not going to find other brands. The next thing shoppers should keep in mind is that Aldo specializes in creating high-quality fashion footwear while maintaining great craftsmanship. Let’s put it this way: if you can’t afford to purchase quality Italian-made shoes, then Aldo is the next best thing. Seriously. And at Aldo, it’s always affordable.
You’ll find both women’s and men’s shoes as well as accessories. Styles vary from work-appropriate to casual to fashion forward. Whatever your shoe needs are, you’ll find satisfaction at Aldo.
Las Vegas has three retail Aldo stores and two Aldo outlet stores. Addresses and phone numbers are listed below.

Store Review: Banana Republic
On Thursday, September 10, also known as Fashion’s Night Out, Banana Republic hosted an exciting grand opening party for their new store concept at Fashion Show Mall. The event was also hosted by the ever-popular 944.com and helped to raise awareness of the local Las Vegas non-profit organization Aid for AIDS Nevada, as Banana Republic made a donation to the group. Complimentary cocktails and champagne were provided along with a DJ. Seen at this fashionable soiree were Melinda Sheckells, Managing Editor of 944 Las Vegas, Jason Feinberg, Fox 5 News Anchor and Las Vegas’ favorite stylist and Trend Editor for “MORE,” Joey Gonnello.
Attendees were presented with a Banana Republic store unlike any other. At the front entrance sits a boutique style room with ceiling-attached, hanging garment rods and a clean, minimal design. As one continues to enter further into the store, the experience is much like walking into a luxuriously oversize walk-in closet with a focus on the deep, dark wood of the interior. Think rich and welcoming.
To the left are three rooms filled with stylish menswear, while to the right are three rooms filled with classically tailored and fashionably trend-setting women’s pieces. Moving toward the back of the store, shoppers are greeted by a large room filled with men’s and women’s accessories and shoes, including two jewelry cases filled with gorgeous pieces. Mannequins are minimal, which complements the clean layout of the store. The few mannequins that are present, are exquisitely styled with outfits and accessories that tempt customers to leave the store with the identical look.
I left the event with Octagon Jewel Ring as featured below. While I loved just about everything at Banana Republic, and I say this as someone who rarely ever shops at BR, what I loved most were the accessories. The Banana is definitely stepping it up a notch. As I said to my friends, “The Banana is getting, like, all fashion-y.” And I mean it. My favorite pieces are featured below. The new store at Fashion Show Mall is located on the upper east level, near Betsey Johnson and across from Journey’s. Because of the impressive design of this particular brick and mortar, if you’re going to shop at a Banana Republic, this is the only one you should bother visiting. To visit any other would simply be settling for less.
